In the beginning…..

Michael always wanted to be an accountant and left school at 17 to start his professional qualification. By the time he was 21, he was qualified and had been working at Fletcher Challenge for three years in various retail, trade and manufacturing divisions.

Experience is vital….

Michael's goals, over the seven years that he worked for various Fletcher companies, was to work alongside competent managers and obtain as much business knowledge and experience as possible. During that time he was a key member of teams which turned two manufacturing divisions from losses to generating profits of over $1m annually. Michael specialized in management information systems and costing systems to give them the information they needed to run the business profitably.

Entrepreneurial seizure one….

In 1987 Michael co-founded a chartered accounting firm based in Onehunga Auckland. His vision was to work with small to medium sized businesses and to  help business owners apply the best of corporate methodologies and reporting systems. He also specialized in the areas of trusts and tax planning.

Entrepreneurial seizure two…

In 2000 Michael set up the current firm Humphries Associates and the "dollarsandsense" brand. His vision was to do business development work with clients, focus on improving the performance of their businesses and help people meet their business and personal goals. We invested in new technology and systems to enable us to grow the business and develop new products and services.

When he is not working…

Michael has been married to Joanne for more than 20 years and they have three daughters. He is frantically saving for wedding expenses and probably won't be able to retire until he is 70! Sporting interests include fishing and golf and his mission is to reduce his handicap to single figures. His family is involved in their local church and they have a special interest in assisting the work of family members who are missionaries in the Philippines.
